The next generation i20 is creating quite a buzz lately, the vehicle has been spotted testing across the globe at various locations including India. The vehicle is a flagship model for Hyundai India in the premium hatchback's space. The i20 was launched in India in 2008 and since then the hatch has received a mild facelift – one with the snazzy DRL's. The next generation vehicle is expected to make its world debut at the Paris Motor Show this October and soon after it, the car will arrive at the Indian shores.

The car is highly disguised in the earlier spy shot pictures hovering over the Internet, this is for the first time that the rear of the vehicle is undisguised and we can clearly figure out the boomerang shaped tail lamps. The nex-gen i20 will be completely new car from ground up and will follow the Hyundai Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language (seen on the new 2015 Sonata recently). The vehicle looks wider and broader from the current version. At the rear, the tail lamps are splitted between the rear fender and the boot lid, making i20 look more premium, to add sporty character the C-pillar are blacked out. taillights reminds of Alfa Romeo's hatchbacks!

The interiors of the test mule seems to be of base variant as we can see manual adjustment for the ORVMs. The car feature a new layout for the dash and it features automatic climate control, audio unit is reminiscent of the recently launched Grand i10. The steering wheel is also seems to be borrowed from the Grand i10. The features of the new hatch are not known at the moment but expect the car to set new benchmarks like the current i20 did back in 2008. Some of the expected features include the rear AC vents, rear camera (clearly visible in the pictures) and built in memory audio unit (speculated from the Grand i10).

Speaking of the engines, the car will borrow current powertrains, the 1.4 litre CRDI oil burner churning out 88.8bhp and 219 Nm of max torque. At the petrol front, the 1.2 litre KAPPA2 VTVT gathers a decent 78.98bhp and a torque of 111Nm, the manufacturer also offers a more powerful 1.4 liter petrol unit mustering 98.6bhp and 136Nm of max torque. Expect the engines to be tweaked for better performance & efficiency and the car will be mated with six speed manual and automatic transmission. Hyundai might shock us with a base variants of nex-gen i20 powered by the Grand i10's 1.1 U2 CRDi unit, to keep it competitive.
