'You don't fix what isn't broken' – Mr Anand Mahindra started with this saying at the launch of new generation Mahindra Scorpio and indeed in its 12 years of existence, Scorpio remained consistent throughout and is one of the most successful products in M&M's line-up. Thanks to the innumerable tech addition over the years like Tyre-tronics, automatic headlamps and rain sensing vipers & voice assistance made Scorpio stand apart from its arch rival Tata Safari. The new Scorpio is here folks with plethora of changes; though it takes styling cues from the previous-gen Scorpio & that's very much identical from the sides but guess what people love Scorpio's design. Lets get you acquaint with what's new in the new-gen Scorpio!

Exterior: Features and Dimensions

  • The 2014 Scorpio rides on a completely new chassis with improved suspension setup with anti-roll technologies.
  • The new SUV comes with 6 variants – S2, S4, S6, S6+, S8 and S10, the S8 and S10 comes with projector headlamps with S10 having static bending technology. While the new LED taillamps comes standard across all variants.
  • It also comes with a fresh new face, grille and slightly tamed bonnet to reduce the overall drag. While the rear gets a new plastic cladding and clear taillamp lenses.
  • The new Scorpio rides on 235/65 R17 alloy wheels.

Interiors: Features

  • New-gen Scorpio features a blue-grey fabric upholstery with drive seat adjustable and a brand new dual-tone dashboard.
  • Major new addition in Scorpio is a 6-inch touch screen infotainment system which features various connectivity options – Navigation/Bluetooth/CD/DVD/USB/Aux.
  • It also features fully automatic temperature control with AC vents for all the three rows.
  • Electric windows are shifted to from central column row to driver's door (except for the base two variants that feature center console mounted controls) and it also features tilt adjustable hydraulic power steering. S10 also comes with anti-pinch window function.
  • The top S10 variant comes with multi-function steering wheel with audio and cruise control switches.
  • The 4WD version features a shift-on-fly shift option.

Safety

  • The airbags in Scorpio starts from the S6+ variant (for driver only) while S8 and S10 offer both driver and passenger airbags as standard while ABS comes standard from S6+.
  • The new addition to the Scorpio is panic braking indication which starts blinking hazard lights in an event of high speed sudden braking.
  • The S10 also comes with speed alert warning along with Tyre-tronics (constant tyre pressure and temperature monitoring system).

Engine: Power and Torque

  • Scorpio features a 2.2 liter mHawk CRDI diesel engine. This 2,179 cc 4-cylinder motor features variable geometry turbo with inter-cooler and churns out 120bhp of max power at 4000rpm and 280Nm of peak torque in between 1800-2800rpm. And is mated to a 5-speed manual and this drive-train comes with 2WD or an optional 4WD setup. The top S10 also comes with Micro Hybrid technology
  • The base S2 variant comes with 2.5 liter turbo charged CRDI engine producing 75bhp at 3200rpm and 200Nm of peak torque in between 1400-2000rpm mated to a 5-speed MT. It also features Micro Hybrid technology.
