Ford is all set for the second innings of Fiesta, curing almost all the sore points of the outgoing version; the car is ready to take on the C segment with a fresh new face! Showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, the 2014 Fiesta is reportedly entering this week. So, lets see if Fiesta is above the water compared to its arch rivals – Honda City and Hyundai Verna.

Exteriors

Ford Fiesta

  • At the front, Ford Fiesta offers swept back dual barrel headlamps. Moving to the City, it also offers similar layout but in horizontal fashion. While Verna is the only car among the trio featuring projector headlamps with LED lamps.

Honda City

  • Speaking of the grilles, Fiesta sports an inverted trapezoidal one with oodles of chrome – featuring second iteration of their kinetic design philosophy 'Kinetic 2.0'. The City features Honda's 'EXCITING H!!!' design, sporting a big chromed wing shaped grille. Verna portrays Hyundai's 'Fluidic' philosophy, sporting sleeker grille profile.

  • Side profile is kept unaltered in the updated Fiesta, the car rides on 15-inch radial with twin 5-spoke alloys. Verna rides on a premium optional R16 'Y' 5-spoke machined alloys. Whereas City offers 5 spoke alloys which look down market compared to the rest two.

Hyundai Verna

  • At the rear, Fiesta gets elongated taillamps, refreshed bumpers with reflectors and chrome lining. City, on the other hand offers wrap-around large taillight flanked around chrome appliqué. However, Verna also offers similar layout but it boasts a twin exhaust muffler, absent in rest two.

Interiors

  • The interiors are subtly altered to add lil' freshness in the updated Fiesta. The central console in the car gets glossy Piano black finish and a new 'ice blue' back lit illumination.

  • The 2014 Fiesta gets upgraded Ford's SYNC (powered by Microsoft) system, the one found on the EcoSport. It also comes with Ford's AppLink connectivity, it connects several Apps in your smartphone to cars infotainment system. The system is capable of reading your text messages, makes and receives calls and search nearby places for you, all through voice controls!

Ford Fiesta

  • The infotainment system also offers USB-iPod connectivity along with Bluetooth.

  • The 2014 Fiesta sports automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, rear parking sensors, cruise control, automatic air conditioning and push button engine start-stop.

  • It also comes with Emergency Assist, borrowed from EcoSport. In case of deployment of airbags, the car itself calls the emergency services through your phones, providing the exact location.

Honda City

  • The new City offers typical futuristic Japanese dashboard layout.

  • The car comes equipped with 5-inch infotainment system with 8 speakers offering USB, Aux-in, FM, CD and Bluetooth phone connectivity.

  • The car also offers touch screen control for the automatic air conditioning.

  • Other goodies on board include push button engine start-stop, sunroof, cruise control and rear parking camera.

Hyundai Verna

  • Hyundai Verna offers a premium looking beige-black dashboard with wooden inserts.

  • In terms of features, the Verna packs rear parking camera & sensors; automatic air conditioning (air purifier), cooled glove box; engine start-stop with smart key; audio system with Bluetooth, iPod-USB connectivity, AUX-in.

Engine

Ford Fiesta

As of now, the Fiesta is only coming with a 1.5 liter turbo inter-cooled diesel. The motor produces 90bhp and 205Nm of max torque. It comes mates to a 5-speed manual transmission. The heavy face makeover is not just stylistic but also practical with improved aerodynamics helping the car to 25.01kmpl tag, second to City.

Honda City  

City comes with two engine options, 1.5L i-VTEC petrol and a 1.5L i-DTEC diesel. The former one is couple to either a 5-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission while the later is only mated to a 6-speed manual. The 1.5 liter i-VTEC pumps out 117bhp and a peak torque of 145Nm. The 1.5 liter i-DTEC churns out 98.6bhp and 200Nm of max torque.

Verna comes with 2 petrol and 2 diesel options. On the petrol front, Verna is offered in 1.4L and 1.6L VTVT engines. The 1.4 liter produces 105.5bhp while the 1.6 liter offers 121.3bhp. The diesel counterparts, 1.4L and 1.6L CRDI produce 88.7bhp and 126.2bhp respectively.

Ford Fiesta  

Fiesta offers driver airbags, ABS with EBD as standard in all the three variants Ambiente, Trend and Titanium. While on top two, it also offers dual airbags.

 City also features driver airbags, ABS with EBD as standard, while on top variants it offers dual SRS airbags.

Hyundai Verna

Verna offers no standard features while it offers ABS with EBD, all-around disc brakes and 6 airbags.
