Mercedes-Benz India to launch 'Edition 1' A & B-Class tomorrow

Mercedes-Benz India will be launching the 'Special Editions' of its A-Class and B-Class at an event in Mumbai, tomorrow. Following the foot marks of the internationally available 'Edition 1' packages, these special variants will be a limited period offering.

To be available only on the A 180 CDI and the B 180 CDI models, the car will offer some extra features and gadgetry as compared to standard trims. The exterior additions to these special editions comes in the form of 'Edition 1' badge on the bootlid, panoramic sunroof, smooth striped decals on the side profile, shiny black finish on side view mirrors and an-all new 17-inch alloys. While the changes on the inside, include electrically adjustable front passenger seats, infotainment system for rear passengers, rear seat centre arm-rest with cup-holder and reverse camera. Apart from these tit-bits inside-out, Mercedes has also re-tuned the suspension of these special edition trims. Which now results in better road presence, improved ride quality and a bit increment in the ground clearance than the regular models.

Mechanically, the Edition 1 will be identical to the standard models. Powered by the same 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine of the on-going A 180 CDI and B 180 CDI, it churns out 109 bhp at 3,200 rpm of maximum power and peak torque of 250 Nm between 1,400 and 2,800 rpm. The unit comes geared up with a common 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).

Mercedes India chief Eberhard Kern had recently said that, “These new, entry-level compact models are not only helping in repositioning the brand as "younger" and "sportier" but are also drawing new customers.”

Fetching 20 percent of the total buyers in the country, Mercedes introduced the B-class (diesel variant) and the A-class last year. As far as pricing is concerned, the Editions 1 trim will be priced above the regular A and B-Class, considering all bells and whistles it comes loaded with. Post this launch, the ace German carmaker will bring the much anticipated GLA and CLA models to India.
