One of the country’s prominent carmaker, Maruti, has stepped in to help the flood-affected people in Chennai, though this is limited to its customers. According to the official statements, the company has issued guidelines to the Maruti dealers and workshops asking them to help its customers in various repairing and restoration work for the damage caused by the heavy rains.

“Some of our dealer workshops in Chennai also suffered water logging and were out of operation. Our engineers have been able to quickly put all of these workshops back into operation,” said the company statement. It added that about 200 Maruti vehicles were reported at the dealerships with waterlogging problems and over 65 vehicles have already been repaired and put back on road and more vehicles are likely to report to the workshops in the coming days.

The problem company is diagnosing for now is of waterlogging and require replacement of spare parts. These spare parts are being brought from Gurgaon and replaced accordingly.

“Insurance companies have responded positively and have seen value in Maruti’s previous initiatives to help customers in distress,” the Indian auto giant added.

The company told that its previous experience in handling similar instances in Jammu and Kashmir and Mumbai helped in handling the Chennai crisis.

They added that immediately after the heavy rains and waterlogging, its dealers sent SMSs to customers cautioning them not to drive the car through water logged areas.

“The message warned customers not to start the car in case it is water logged as starting the engine will lead to “hydro-lock” and engine seizure. This helped in minimising the damage,” read the statement. Maruti is also working with the insurance companies so that its customers’ claims get cleared swiftly.
