Mahindra Thar Facelift Spied, Gets a Jeep Wrangler-like Dash!

Mahindra Thar facelift has been spotted recently, the off-roader is expected to launch in couple of months (reportedly coming this June). This is the first major uplift Mahindra has given to the Thar since its launch back in 2010.

Changes?

At the outset what you see from the spy shots - the rear canopy is now slightly tilted. Furthermore, at the time of the launch expect to see refreshed front and rear bumpers along with other subtle changes to the body. On the inside, Thar gets a new dashboard, the old Bolero borrowed dashboard is gone for good. The new dash seems to have taken inspiration from Jeep Wrangler - placing of ac louvers, air conditioning controls reminds you of the same. Moreover, there’s a new flamboyant three dial instrumentation cluster with chrome outlines and current Bolero derived steering wheel.

Any changes to Powertrain?

Engines in the Thar are likely to remain unchanged with this facelift, 2015 Thar will carry forward the current engine options. As of now Mahindra provides two diesel engine options - 2.5-liter CRDe and 2.6-liter DI. The less powerful 2523 cc DI oil burner generates 63 bhp and 182.5 Nm of max torque in-between - 1500 - 1800 rpm. The powerful common rail 2.5-liter CRDe diesel generates a healthy 105 bhp at 3800 rpm and 247 Nm of peak torque at 1800-2000 rpm. Like the on-going car engines it will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and will be available with 2WD (rear-wheel-drive) and the 4WD [Borg-warner (Manual Shift) with low reduction gear].
