Mahindra Scorpio, Skoda Rapid Launching Tomorrow

Two more launches tomorrow and dare I say, two important launches, one from the homegrown manufacturer Mahindra updating its rugged SUV Scorpio and another from the Skoda bringing the facelift version of Rapid. Both the launches are scheduled on the auspicious occasion of Navratri inception.

Mahindra is all set to launch Scorpio facelift tomorrow on 25th September. Booking of the updated SUV has already started on both Mahindra dealership and on e-commerce website SnapDeal for Rs 20,000 which is fully refundable. The SUV lock horns with Renault Duster AWD, Tata Safari and Nissan Terrano. The SUV will be made available in 6 variants – S2, S4, S6, S6+, S8 and top-of-the-line S10. The SUV is also coming with two new colors – Molten RED and Regal Blue.

Some spied shots of the updated Scorpio suggests that the SUV will feature day-time-running-LEDs, bold vertical slat front grille, swept back headlamps and LED taillamp cluster. The interiors also show some serious updates as it now embraces new touch screen infotainment system, rain and light sensors, cruise control and TyreTronics. Mechanically, the SUV remains same and will keep on housing m2DiCr and 2.2-litre mHwak diesel engines which develops a maximum power of 120bhp and 290Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to five speed manual gearbox along with automatic transmission.

Skoda, the Czech manufacturer is also bringing the Rapid facelift tomorrow. The facelift version of bigger sibling VW Vento will be introduced today. Andd just like Vento, Skoda Rapid too will get a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic gearbox on the diesel model. Pitched in the same saloon segment, Rapid is put against the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Ford Fiesta and Fiat Linea. The updated Skoda Rapid will get the more powerful version of 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine offered with 5-speed manual and an automatic dual-clutch DSG. The petrol models are likely to retain the same 1.6MPI mill.
