#LookBack2014: Major Highlights of Indian Auto Expo, 2014

Highlights from the mecca of automobiles in the country - India Auto Expo’14! 

In our #LookBack2014 series we are wrapping up the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, the mecca of automobile held in every two years. As the competition in India is getting fierce year on year, this Expo saw some major launches and revealings and indeed there were few global unveilings! Lets roll you through the major glimpses of the Expo. 

House Honda 

Upcoming 

Honda showcased new-gen Jazz and Accord at the Expo in February, production of both the cars were temporarily halted as the sales were dipping. Speaking of which, according to the recent reports Jazz was supposed to enter this year but Honda India says its coming anytime early next year. Moreover, apart from the initial high price tag, Jazz was plagued with the absence of a diesel power. Not to worry, 2015 Jazz is now coming with  the City’s 1.5-liter i-DTEC diesel. Adding on the Accord, the ninth generation Accord is expected to enter next year and its sole limitation - lacking of diesel heart is likely to overcome with a 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel! 

Launched 

Honda also showcased Mobilio at the Auto Expo and was launched soon after it in the month of July. As expected Honda kept the pricing in between Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Toyota Innova. Moreover, Honda also launched a feature packed sportier looking version of the Mobilio, known as, RS! Speaking of the sales, Mobilio is clocking in-between 3-5k sales monthly. 

House Maruti Suzuki

SX4 S-Cross is next anticipated product from the India’s largest automaker and is expected to launch early next year. Posing next to Ciaz at the 2014 Auto Expo, SX4 S-Cross will compete with Duster and Terrano and is opulent enough to tackle its rivals. Adding on it, we are getting the second-gen SX4 S-Cross and it is coming with features like daytime running LEDs, projector headlamps, Suzuki’s AllGrip 4WD which sets it apart from competitors. 

Launched 

Maruti Suzuki Celerio was launched at the Auto Expo while the Ciaz was launched few months ago. Both the cars are pretty competitive in their respective segments and are clocking high numbers for MSI. Celerio was India’s first vehicle to be equipped with AMT (Automated-Manual-Transmission) which Maruti calls it AGS (Auto-Gear-Shift). While Ciaz is the longest and the most feature rich vehicle in its segment.    

House Ford 

Upcoming 

Ford India made the global debut of the Figo concept in a compact sedan avatar at the 2014 Auto Expo. The concept will make ways for the Figo replacement and is coming along with a company sedan which will replace the aging Classic aka previous Fiesta. Under the company’s ‘One Ford’ policy, these cars recently went on to sale in Brazil and are coming to India early next year.  

Launched 

From the Expo, Ford India has launched the facelifted Fiesta few months ago. The new 2014 Fiesta is only available with the 1.5-liter diesel and comes with an improved fuel efficiency of 25.1 kmpl. Petrol is not offered as of now but is anticipated that Ford will introduce Fiesta with the 1.0-liter EcoBoost soon.  

House VW

Upcoming  

Volkswagen showcased the Taigun compact SUV at the Auto Expo’14 in a concept version. The concept was in near production state and is likely to launch sometime next year. The German compact SUV will compete with Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, and Nissan Terrano as its major rivals. 

House Skoda

Launched

Skoda, the Czech automaker, had unveiled the facelift version of its flagship vehicles, Superb sedan and Yeti SUV. Both the vehicles have been launched in the Indian market. While the Superb sedan had hit the market in February itself, the Yeti facelift was launched recently. 

House Tata

Upcoming

India's leading carmaker has showcased Nexon compact SUV concept along with the soon to be launch Nano F-Tronic  equipped with AMT (Automated-Manual-Transmission) gearbox. While Nano is expected early next year, Nexon is likely to launch in late 2015 or early 2016.

  

Launched 

The major launches from the Indian Auto Expo by Tata are the compact sedan-hatch duo. Out of which, Tata has already launched the Zest compact sedan while bookings for the Bolt have already started and launch is set to happen next month. 

House Nissan/Datsun

Upcoming 

Two products are expected from the Nissan’s subsidiary brand Datsun  - GO+ MPV and Redi-GO from the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. While the MPV is entitled to launch by mid-January, Redi-GO is expected in late 2015. Adding on it, Datsun made the world debut of the Redi-GO concept at the auto show.  

Launched 

From Nissan’s stable, Sunny facelift which was showcased at the 2014 Expo has already entered the market. 

House Fiat

Upcoming 

The Abarth performance brand which the Italian automaker showcased at the Auto Expo’14 is set to launch next month. The first product from the Abarth’s stable is the 500 hatch. 

Launched 

The showstopper of the Fiat’s Expo pavilion, Avventura CUV (Contemporary-Urban-Vehicle) was launched recently. Moreover, Fiat also drove in the Fiat Linea facelift, showcased at the Expo in mid-2014. 

House Hyundai

Launched 

At the Auto Expo, Hyundai had launched the Santa Fe SUV with a price tag of Rs. 26.30 lac. Moreover, the Korean automaker’s debutant compact sedan Xcent was also launched few months after its display at the Expo.
