Toyota has plans to introduce hybrid versions of more of its models and we spotted an Innova on test. There were two test mules of which one had its right door sealed completely. The second one didn’t, however the bonnets of both the Innova’s were sealed.

This means sometime is happening under the bonnet. From what we understand it will be either a revised engine or it is getting hybrid too. The bonnets and bumpers of both the test mule Innovas were sealed. So, we can expect Toyota to do something to its best selling MUV very soon. The Innova has been the best-seller in this segment since its launch in 2005, replacing the aged Toyota Qualis.

Toyota has been going hybrid on most of its cars, however making it hybrid could be an expensive deal. We could expect them to maybe downsize the engine or introduce a new engine that is more cost effective as the Honda Mobilio isn’t too far away from being launched in India. The Mobilio isn’t as large as the Innova, but it can eat up some market share of the Innova.

The Mobilio will be available with a 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options. The Mobilio could even be launched with a 1.5-litre petrol automatic, as seen on the new Honda City also.
