A series of sketches revealing the exterior styling details of a new Audi TT Sportback concept is now out on web. And if word on the street is to be believed then, Audi will be unveiling this concept at the 2014 Paris Auto Show next week.

On various occasions, Audi's R&D chief Ulrich Hackenberg has hinted about the possibility of expanding the TT range, and addition of a third bodystyle beyond the currently available coupe and convertible froms. In fact, before seeing the final TT-based crossover concept, the third-generation TT was initially previewed in concept form by a shooting brake concept.

Speaking at the launch of the TT Offroad concept at the Beijing motor show in April, Audi research and development boss Ulrich Hackenberg said, “The Audi TT Offroad concept provides a glimpse of how we might image a new model in the future TT family."

The TT Sportback concept is reportedly around 11 inches longer than the TT coupe, and is based on the flexible MQB platform. The platform already underpins larger vehicles like the very-successful Audi A3 and Volkswagen Passat. The split-folding rear seats are said to allow storage space to be expanded to 30 cubic-feet.

The concept is expected to come with the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, previewed in Audi’s TT quattro sport concept earlier this year. The unit is rated at 420 bhp and is said to be channeled to all four wheels via a six-speed S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox.

After its arrival, the car would go into battle with models such as the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and the Mercedes CLA-Class.
