Honda Plans to Sell 3 lac Cars By 2016-17

Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) betting big on the growing Indian auto sector has set its target to sell 3 lac cars in financial year 2016-17. In FY 2012-13, the automaker witnessed a steep growth of 83 per cent as they retailed 1,34,000 units. While in the current fiscal year (April to October), HCIL has already sold over 1 lakh cars.

HCIL Vice President (Marketing and Sales) Janeshwar Sen said, "We have focused on expanding business in the country and would like to raise the sale of cars to cross 3,00,000 mark in financial year 2016-17.” He further added, that to meet the growing demands, the company has two plants at Greater Noida and at Tapukara in Rajasthan's Alwar district. He also hinted that the company might increase the capacity of its Rajasthan plant to achieve the target of selling 3 lakh cars by 2016-17. "Lot of space is available at our Rajasthan plant for expansion," he said.

Mr Sen also said that the company is planning to set up its third plant in Gujarat and for which land acquisition has begun. Sharing some light on the company future’s plans, Mr Sen said the HCIL will soon launch its premium hatch Honda Jazz with both petrol and diesel engines.

In the month of October, the automaker saw an overall growth of 18 per cent. The Japanese giant has sold 13,242 units in last month compared to 11,214 units in same period previous year. Moreover, the carmaker has recently inaugurated 200th dealership in the country and plans to expand the total no. of dealerships to 230 in 150 cities by the end of March 2015.
