Can Datsun Go take on the big volume churners of the B segment, namely, Hyundai i10 IRDE2 and Maruti Suzuki Wagon R K10? Datsun, wholly owned Nissan subsidiary, is betting high on the recently launched Go hatch. Go was unwrapped at a price of Rs 3.12 lakh for the base variant which goes up to Rs 3.69 lakh (Ex-showroom New Delhi) for the top end version. The car is big on space & features, plus the power comes from the bigger 1.2 litre unit making it an edge over its rivals Eon and Alto K10, so will it be able to make a dent on the sales of B segment sale pullers, lets find it out!

Datsun Go

As far as power is considered Go is at par with Hyundai i10 IRDE2 and Wagon R. Hyundai i10 IRDE is powered by a 1086cc (1.1 litre) engine churning out 68bhp of max power at 5500rpm while it gives out peak torque of 99Nm at 4500rpm. On the other hand, Wagon R's 1.0 litre K10 motor gathers 66.64bhp at 6200rpm and maximum torque output of 90Nm at 3500rpm. Surpassing both, Go features bigger 1.2 litre mill producing a generous 67.07bhp at 5000rpm and peak torque output of 104Nm at 4000rpm. Despite being larger in displacement compared to both the hatchbacks, Go offers better certified fuel efficiency (ARAI certified) of 20.63kmpl while the other two stands at same 18kmpl certified. Bigger block results in better performance figures, Go clocks 100kmph mark from standstill under 13.3 seconds while i10 and Wagon R take 15.3 and 16.2 seconds respectively.

Go also boosts unique features that are never seen before in the A segment and surprisingly, not in the B segment either. The exquisite features include, Follow me home head lamps, Intelligent smart speed sensing wiper system, Connected front seats, Mobile docking equipped audio unit and Smart meter. The hatch excels in terms of space too, Go has a wheelbase of 2450mm while the wheelbase of Wagon R is 2400mm, i10 stands last with a wheelbase of 2380mm. At 265 liters, Go is unparalleled in terms of boot space also, Wagon R and i10 provides 225 litre and 180 litre respectively.

The fit and finish of the Go is decent compared to the other to, Go lacks on some ends like cushioning of the seats (not bad but a tad lower compared to other two), sound insulation, rear power windows. The Go T ( top trim) lands at Rs 3.69 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi), this variant offers array of features which none of these two B segment top sellers boosts, i10 1.1 Era IRDE2 comes at Rs 3.91 lakh while Wagon R Lxi lands at Rs 3.83 lakh. Go will surly steal the sales of the mid variants of i10 and Wagon R. Hyundai and Maruti watch-out!
