Rising Input cost to affect margins, Tata Motors

Tata Motors, India's largest car manufacturers is expecting that the ongoing rise in the commodity prices will affect its margins in coming months. Though the company is saying that it will try to offset this by hiking the price and cost cutting. As the the prices of row materials including steel, aluminum and copper have seen a considerable rise in recent past, auto makers finding it hard to sell their vehicles at same pricing. Besides this government of India has hiked the excise duty by 2 percent which has added additional pressure on car makers to increase the price of their vehicles.

Tata Fiat to hold free service checkups in Mumbai

True to its commitment to world class service, Tata Fiat is set to continue its free service check up campaign in Mumbai on 13th and 14th March 2010. Daimler sold its 5.34 percent stake in Tata Motors

Daimler, the luxury car maker said on Tuesday that it has sold its 5.34 percent stake in the Tata Motors. The Daimler Motor company sold its stake to Tata Motors' biggest stake holder Tata Sons and other major investors like City-group for nearly Rs 1,863 crore. According to Daimler, Mercedes Benz (a subsidiary of Daimler in India) is doing quite well in India and the company is ready to capitalise on the growth potential of the Indian auto market without the help of the Tata group. According to company an equity participation of Daimler in Tatas in not necessary any longer and the move of selling the stake has been taken in full consideration with Tatas and as the relations between both of the companies are excellent, this sell will not affect the relations of both of the companies.

Tata Motors expects a hike in car prices from April 2010

Tata Motors India's one of the largest car manufacturer has said that there will be a considerable price hike from the month of April as the new emission norms are going to be implemented from the next month in India. Mr Rajiv Dube, Tata Motors passenger car division president said that there will be a price hike across the industry when the new emission norms will be implemented in India. “We cannot say now by how much the price will be hiked, but a hike is definite, as companies cannot absorb the extra cost in meeting the new norms,” Mr Dube added.

Daimler sold its stake in Tata

Daimler, the German car manufacturer, has reported to sell off its stake in Indian auto company Tata Motors. According to a higlhy placed source, Daimler had sold its entire 5.34% stakes in Tata Motors for about $429 million. The former was selling off its stake in India's Tata Motors through block deals of more then 24mn shares.The deal was executed on Tuesday at a weighted average price of 758.45 ruppes a share, as per the Bombay Exchange data.

Tata to launch Tata Nano EV in Europe soon

Tata Motors has reported to launch electric version of the world's cheapest car Nano in Europe by the next two-and-a-half years. At the same time Tata Nano electric vehicle (EV) when launched will grow the company's electric vehicles portfolio. The new version of Nano Europa would be exported from India by the next two years, said the company sources. Tata Motors have made an initiative to introduce an environment friendly vehicle,says Ravi Kant Vice Chairman of Tata Motors. He also added that the introduction of the electric vehicle in all the major markets, but the costing of the car has not been decided yet. There have been no chance taken with compromising the environment friendly transportation for its customers.

Tata Motors sold 69,427 units in February

Tata Motors’ total sales (including exports) of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles in February 2010 were 69,427 vehicles, a growth of 58% over 43,811 vehicles sold in February 2009. The company’s domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for February 2010 were 66,190 nos., a 56 % growth over 42,493 nos. sold in February last year. Cumulative sales (including exports) for the company for the fiscal at 567,535 nos., recorded a growth of 28 % over 444,095 nos. sold last year.

Tata to hike price of its vehicles in India

Tata Motors, India's largest car manufacturer today said that it will hike the price of its vehicles as the government of India has increased excise duty to 10 percent. Earlier Government of India had cut down the excise duty rates to 8 percent to provide a stimulus package to Auto Industry which was struggling with low sales and credit crunch at that time. Tata Motors registers a Consolidated Profit of Rs. 650.26 crores in Q3FY10

Tata Motors today reported consolidated gross revenues of Rs. 26,774.44 crores for the quarter ended December 31, 2009, a growth of 46.7% compared to Rs. 18,246.60 crores in the corresponding quarter of last year. Introduction of new products and strong continued growth in the existing portfolio, along with government stimulus, a benign liquidity environment and overall economic recovery, have driven Indian operations demand revival during the current year. Tata Motors’ sales volume for the quarter (including exports) stood at 165,413 vehicles. This is a growth of 67.5% over sales of 98,760 vehicles in Q3 2008-09, which witnessed steep decline in volumes impacted by the financial crisis.

Tata Aria to be launched by June 2010

Tata Nano to be showcased in US by Cooper-Hewitt

Tata Nano, the smallest and cheapest car in India is now all set to be showcased in the US car market which will be displayed by Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. The car will be displayed at Great Hall at 2 East 91st Street in Manhattan by Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum starting from Thursday. Showcasing of Tata Nano by Cooper-Hewitt shows that the car has not only attracted automobile enthusiasts around the world also but also caught the imagination of the common people. Tata replaced Hyundai as second largest car maker

Tata Motors, India's highest revenue earning automaker has replaced Hyundai India as India's second largest domestic passenger car selling company , said company officials. As Maruti Suzuki India is poised on number 1 spot with about 54% market share, the second position is always been a competitive spot for major domestic car manufacturers like Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra and Hyundai India. It took 2 years to Tata Motors to regain its position as India's second highest passenger car selling company, officials added.
 
In the passenger vehicle segment, Tata Motors sold 31,081 units last month which accounts for a growth of 48 percent compared to sales in January, last year, as per the data provided by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). At the same time Hyundai India sold 29,601 units in passenger vehicle category in its last month's sales. But the show stopper was Maruti Suzuki which sold a whooping 81,087 units last month, much higher than Tata's total domestic sales.

Tata Motors, M&M increase prices

The rise in prices of inputs has forced the car makers to increase prices of their models. It’s not only Maruti which has raised the prices of its models; there is hike in the prices of Tata Motors’ Indica and Indigo, and Mahindra and Mahindra’s Xylo, Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra Bolero. The raise in the prices of Tata Indica and Tata Indigo will vary from Rs 5,000-8,000. Utility vehicle maker Mahindra and Mahindra has also raised the prices ranging from Rs 6,400 and Rs 9,300 on its Sport Utility Vehicle. While its Utility Vehicle Xylo price is increased by Rs 4,600, Bolero sees Rs 4,800 hike.

Tata Nano undergoing modifications

Tata Nano, the world’s cheapest car is being modified to make it readable for sale in U.S. The car is going under the process of modification to meet emissions and safety standards of U.S. The company has not disclosed the price but it is expected that the price would be more than the price charged in India.  Ratan Tata, chairman of Tata group of companies has said that the car would take three years for US distribution. Before Tata Nano can be sold in US the car’s 623cc would have to be retrofitted to meet U.S. pollution standards. The few things that have to be modified like airbags have to be added, the roof has to be strengthened and the front bumper has to be lengthened.

Tata to showcase Indicruz model in the Delhi Auto show

Tata Motors, one of the India's largest car manufacturer will showcase its Tata Indicruz model in the Delhi Auto Expo, starting 5th January next year. The Tata Indicruz model is expected to be officially launched in the first quarter of next year by the company. Its a festive time for Tata Motors’ premium car division Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) as it is driving out of the demand slowdown. According to sources, the company’s Land Rover range of models now have a six months waiting period. The demand for these range of products has spurred months after JLR announced its new business strategy in September. Tata Motors launches upgraded Sumo with 60 pc rise in SUV sales

India’s largest vehicle maker, Tata Motors expects sales of its sports utility vehicles to rise by 60 percent to 4.000 units a month, following the introduction of an upgraded version of its Sumo model. On Monday the company had launched the Sumo Grande MK II which will replace the Grande MK I and will cost around Rs 25K lesser than the outgoing model at Rs 6.43 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Rajiv Dube, head of the passenger vehicle division said that they are currently selling between 2,500 to 3,000 utility vehicles and expect it to increase by 1,000 vehicles a month.

Tata motors had designed world's affordable car and will be on view at prestigious Smithsonian's Cooper -Hewitt Design Museum in New York from February 18 to 25 April 2010.

Tata Motors plans to launch hybrid Nano

Tata Group is now planning to come up with the hybrid versions of its Tata Nano, which is taged as the world's cheapest car with the aim to join in the environment-friendly trend. Ratan Tata, chairman of the Tata Group, told that low-priced goods would create stronger demand than high-end products in India, and the so-called low-price revolution would continue across the world. Where's the compensation?

The wafer-thin margins of component suppliers to Nano are undergoing pressure with Tata Motors not compensating them for moving facilities from Singur to Sanand and also with the slow speed production at the Pantnagar facility. The compensation issues were related to the fresh investment some vendors had to make at the Sanand facility, when they had already invested at the previous site in Singur, West Bengal. Since the margins on Nano parts are thin, parts suppliers need huge volumes to make profits.

Angad Paul, CEO of the Caparo group found this year very painful. But Angad Paul is intending to look forward at the long-term benefits Tata group can bring. Tata Motors maintained that the compensation issue is under discussion. The company and the vendors are engaged to have a word on the cost of manufacturing and the cost of shifting facilities.

Tata's Singur land can be acquired for BHEL says Nirupam Sen

West Bengal Commerce and Industry Minister Nirupam Sen on Thursday said that if state-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) selected the land abandoned by Tata Motors in Singur, the state government would acquire it from the auto major. Nirupam Sen also said that if BHEL selects the land, they will begin the process to get it released. Senior BHEL officials had on November 12 inspected the land at Singur in Hooghly district, 40 km from here, to consider setting up a power generation plant.

Another world's cheapest car by EcoCa in India

After the launch and success of Tata Nano, several auto makers challenged the world's cheapest car by fixing lower prices of their small cars. But now the biggest wonder has appeared in the form of EcoCa Ltd-London based engineering and design firm. The company, EcoCa, has developed the prototype of the cheapest car. The new small car would be a two-seater car with automatic gearbox and convertible roof. It weights only 330 kg very less against Tata Nano's 635 kg. The initial fuel efficiency is around 27-28 kmpl as against 23.6 kmpl of Nano. The prototype has a peak speed of 70 kmph, much lower than Tata Nano's 103 kmph.

Nano production to begin at Sanand

Tata Motors said on Tuesday that the upcoming Gujarat factory for the Tata Nano will start it's trial production in the fourth quarter of this fiscal year. PM Telang, India MD for Tata Motors, said work was on at the new factory site for the Tata Nano at Sanand (near Ahmedabad) where the company decided to move late last year after it had to vacate the Singur land in West Bengal, following protests over land acquisition spearheaded by Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress.

The countdown is begun already. Tata Motors is, finally, going to launch Tata Manza in India. This festival offering will be unveiled in Mumbai by Ratan Tata, chairman of the company. In fact, the company has modified the Tata Indigo and some new features and designing change has been made to shape a new car model- Tata Manza. Nano goes for audit check before delivery

The news in the car market is that all Tata Nano to be delivered to the anxious customers will again undergo a final audit check for any faulty switches. The company will conduct pre-emptive audit check before delivery as well as for yet-to-be delivered cars as a precautionary measure, said a Tata Motors speaker.

Tata Nano new models caught fires at three sites so far that is in Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Delhi. Customers from Ahmedabad and Lucknow have already contacted the dealers and brought the cars to the showrooms for repair while the Delhi customer has instead lodged a complaint with the police citing manufacturing defect as the reason for the mishap.

Tata Manza launched

Tata Motors, the leading auto manufacturer of the country, has launched its much awaited and ambitious Tata Manza in Mumbai. This launch is the new model of Tata Indigo. Tata Motors Chairman Ratan Tata unveiled the festival gift for the customers. The entry-level sedan has been launched in four variants- Aura (ABS), Aqua, Aura and Aura plus. It is endowed with  Bluetooth connectivity, power outlets for recharging laptops and cell phones, an outdoor temperature sensor and three barreled headlamps.

Tata strategy has been to try and cover all the bases despite knowing that 76% of the cars sold in India are compacts and this situation few expect to change anytime soon. Henceforth, 11 of 14 car launches planned in India for 2009 and 2010 are compact cars, according to Care Ltd, a research and ratings agency based in Mumbai. But Tata Motors are optimistic and they have began selling Jaguars and Land Rovers to India's urban elite just after three months of Tata Nano launch.

"There is no other manufacturer in the Indian market offering such a comprehensive range of products,'' Dube said. Data since April reveal that Indians have bought 117,863 mid-sized cars, a rise of 3.2 per cent from the same period last year. But they purchased 523,038compact cars, 22.7 per cent more than during the prior period.

Tata Motors to launch Tata Manza

Indian auto lovers are graced by several launches in September and October. On 12th October, General Motors launched Chevrolet Cruze and BMW Z4 Roadster was also launched. Nano faces no competition yet

Even after 18 months after they announced plans to roll out a rival to Tata Nano, the ambitious ultra low-cost (ULC) car project of Bajaj Auto, Nissan and Mahindra Renault seem to have reached no where. The three companies had come together for jointly developing and launching a budget car with a price tag close to Tata Nano but still are unable to work out a concrete product plan. They also not have much confidence on the expected demand for such a product. Tata Motors sales grew in every segment

Beating the global downturn, Indian auto companies registered positive sales growth in their respective segments. Tata Motors, Maruti, Ford, Fiat, Hyundai and General Motors sold a good number of vehicles in India in September. Tata Motors enjoyed the same increased sales figures in the month. It posted 5.77 per cent growth by selling 52,513 units as compared to 49,647 units in September last year. As far as passenger vehicles are concerned, the company registered 9.59 per cent improvement at 18,176 units against 16,586 units the same month in 2008. only one area was not up to the mark that is export. The vehicle export lowered by 35.12 per cent at 2,863 units as compared to 4,413 units in September, 2008. Tata Sumo, Tata Safari and Tata Indigo recorded negative sales figures in the month. On the other hand, Tata Indica range became the best seller for the company and sales increased up 15 per cent against September last year.

Tata Motors to launch Manza in India on Oct 14

Tata Motors is geared up to launch its new Tata Indigo, named as Tata Manza, on October 14. The company has used the same platform for the car which was there in Tata Indica Vista. Tata Indigo new avatar will compete with the likes of Mahindra Renault Logan and Maruti Swift Dzire. Tata to start Nano booking from March 2009

Tata Motors said today that they had sent prototypes of its Rs. 1 lakh car, Nano from its Pantnagar based manufacturing plant to three cities in the state for test drive. Mr. Nagbhushan, Head of Tata Motors' engineering department, said that three prototypes of Nano have been sent to Dehradun, Almora and Ranikhet where the test-run of this car would be conducted. Tata Motors launches the compact Freelander 2

The Jaguar and Land Rover brands owner Tata Motors, launched the Freelander 2 at its flagship showroom on September 22. The compact sports utility vehicle from the Land Rover stable will be available in three variants and will be priced between Rs 33.8 lakh and Rs 45 lakh.

For Nano vendors journey to Sanand is in it's final leg

Tata Motors has been in talks with its vendors, after it decided to relocate its ‘dream car’ project from West Bengal to Gujarat. Tata Nano vendors have already started setting up units in Sanand. Nearly 37 vendors have already been allotted land.

A Tata Motors spokesperson told that the Tata Nano manufacturing complex site in Sanand belongs to Tata Motors and most vendors, accounting for 95 percent of the supplies, have agreed to land allotments.

Today on 16th July, India's largest auto manufacturer Tata Motors said that they are going to deliver the first Tata Nano on Friday. Tata Nano is well known as the world's cheapest car and it is already much delayed for Indian market. Tata Motors official said that its most eagerly anticipated and much delayed car - Tata Nano is now ready to hit the Indian road by July end. Tata Motors started delivering Tata Nano to its dealers and  it also send the allotment letters to customers who got place in the first list. 80,000 Tata Nano in the year 2009-2010

It is expected that the Tata Motors will come up with nearly 80,000 Nano cars in the year session of 2009-10 and also is expecting to launch these cars by the end of the February.
