Much awaited demand from car companies fulfilled in the new budget for 2009-10. The Finance Minister Pranab Mukerjee proposed to cut the additional excise duty on big cars, cars having engine capacities of 2,000cc, above by Rs 5,000 per unit. The car industry welcomed the change and Mitsubishi, present in India through a joint venture with Hindustan Motors Ltd, announced price cut on its cars. From July 7, Pajero, Outlander and Montero will have a price cut of Rs 6,000 in India.

Recently launched face lifted version of the Montero will also see a steeper hike because of higher import duty tax. The Mitsubishi Cedia will be dearer by Rs 50,000 and the Lancer will add an extra burden of Rs 40,000. The price is increased due to rising value of Yen. As a result, imported kits’ price is increasing. The company imports most of the components. Y.V.S. Vijay Kumar (Executive Vice President, Hindustan Motors) said that in the last year and a half, the Yen had appreciated 40 per cent against the rupee.
View Full Detail »Mitsubishi and Hindustan Motors’ ambitious small car plan is on hold now due to the lack of funds from Japan and poor demand. It forced both the companies to cut capital expenditure (capex) for the current year. The company planned to launch the premium compact car through its technical tie-up with the Birla Group-promoted Hindustan Motors in 2011-2012. The plan intended to re-engineering a compact car from Mitsubishi’s global portfolio for the Indian market or building a new car from scratch.

It’s ex-showroom price is Rs 41.94 lakh. This premium car is imported from Japan and it is not assembled in India.
