View Full Detail »Maruti Suzuki, India's largest automobile manufacturer announced today that it is going to discontinue its lowest-Price model, Maruti 800, here. The news came as a surprise to many market analysts as it was expected that Maruti 800 model will be up-graded to make it compatible to Euro-IV emission norms. Mr R C Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, said today that the company has no plans of up-grading its Maruti 800 model and it would be discontinued in 13 Indian cities starting from April this year.
Maruti 800 is the oldest model of the company in India and Maruti has sold thousands of units of this model in the country since its launch way back in last decade. After the discontinuation of Maruti 800, Maruti Alto will become the lowest-priced small car in Maruti's Indian portfolio. The move will also affect the value of Maruti 800 in used car market as the model already has a high presence in used car market.
Japan based one of world's largest manufacturers Suzuki is all set to launch Maruti Kizashi model In India, as told by a top Suzuki executive to media. Kizashi, which is Suzuki's first-ever sports sedan with four wheel drive option was launched in North-American market in December 2009 and since then company has sold more then 300 units in the country.
Gene Brown, Vice-President (Automotive Marketing and Public Relations), Suzuki Motor corporation America, said in a statement given to PTI that the Maruti kizashi model will be launched in India soon though he hasn't provided any details regarding the launch of Kizashi model in India as he is appointed for company's operations in American market. He was talking on the sidelines of Chicago Auto Show.
Maruti Suzuki India, country's largest car manufacturer announced today that it is expecting to register a 100% export increase by the end of this fiscal. Company is expecting that it will manage to sell around 1.6 lakh units by the end of this fiscal along with a sales increase of 20% in its overall sales.
Company managed to export around 80,000 units in last fiscal. But as now it is also planning to enhance its exports to other markets like South-East Asia and Africa, it is expecting to achieve a 100% increase in its exports this fiscal. Company recently announced its plans of exporting Maruti Ritz model in overseas market along with its flagship Maruti A-Star model.
Maruti Suzuki India is establishing a R&D facility at Rohtak which after completion will be the only such efficient R&D center of Suzuki out side Japan. Company is planning to convert this facility into a self-sufficient and self reliant R&D center by the year 2012. Interestingly the company also has plans to launch a 100% made-in -India small car by 2012 which will be designed and engineered in this facility.

As the economy is going through a rebounding phase in this fiscal, the company has registered a descent increase in its sales compare to last fiscal year. Though the company is expecting to face tough situation in coming fiscal due to rising raw material prices and an expected withdrawal of stimulus package by the government. According to RC Bhargava, chairman of the company, Maruti Suzuki which sells one of every two cars in India and dominates the compact car segment, would have to look at the tax impact if the government withdraws its stimulus package. "All these are concerns and it is not possible to make a firm accurate forecast of what will happen in the next 15 months," he told Reuters.

Today Maruti unveils its premium sedan model Maruti Kizashi at the 10th Auto Expo. It is a hottest contested model of the biggest show. Maruti Suzuki India sold 84,804 in December 2009 compared to 56,293 units in December 2008. While at the same time the domestic sales of the company increased by a whooping 36.5 percent at 71,000 compared to 52,029 units in the same period preceding year. According to the market analysts the government stimulus packages and easier car finance are the main factors in this double digit growth. View Full Detail »India's leading car maker's proceed to see double-digit sales growth in month of November. Maruti Suzuki India Limited Jumped 17.1 per cent sales growth in the last month compared to November 2008. The company sold 56,005 units of cars in A2 segment against 34,976 units in the last year. The major sales came from the fast-growing A2 segment Maruti Swift, Maruti Wagon R, Maruti A-Star, Maruti Alto and Maruti Zen Estilo grew more than 60 per cent over November 2008. The company's former brand, the Maruti 800 also grew 32 per cent sales to 3,040 cars. Korean carmaker Hyundai posted 93 per cent sales growth to 28,162 cars in November compared to the same month last year. The company jumped its highest sales data in its operation period of last month. Hyundai, vice-president (Marketing and Sales) Arvind Sexena, said, “The overall economic position has been positive and this has translated in to more steps in the showroom and higher automobile sales as indicated by this month’s figures. We hope that the company will continue to grow on economic track as it will maintain a double digit increase figure which helps the Indian automotive industry.” On the other hand, Tata Motors sales increased 48 per cent to 18,480, while Fiat's grew six times to 1,965 units. Utility vehicle maker, Mahindra and Mahindra, saw sales Jumped double to 15,193 units against the previous year. The company's SUVs major sales came from Mahindra Xylo, Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra Scorpio but Mahindra Logan keep to get muted response. It sold 279 cars in November 2009 compared with 300 cars in the years-ago period.

Maruti Suzuki told that sales for November stood at 87,807 units, a rise of 84 percent over the like month last year when the company was hit hardest due to a demand slowdown and sold only 47,704 vehicles.
The company also stated that November 2008 was an exceptionally low sales month because of the economic slowdown. This year's November sales were up 17.1 percent from that in November 2007.

When contacted a Maruti India (MSI) spokesperson said, "the successful K-series engines will be mounted on more models in a phased manner," without specifying details and timeline for the change in engines. Maruti Alto is MSI's best selling model as it crossed 1 Million mark in domestic market, while Maruti Wagon R also accounted for a good number to its compact car sales. The company's newer models such Maruti A-Star, Maurit Ritz and the new Maruti Zen Estilo are powered by K-series engines, which the company claims are more fuel efficient and have lesser emission.
All new Maruti Omni which will be named as Maruti Eko will be launched during this festive season. The comapny will shortly roll out the model and it will hit the markets before Diwali. Maruti Eko has been developed under code name O2 that uses the Maruti Versa platform. This model would be priced below Rs. 5 lakh.

Indian small-car producers like Maruti and Hyundai Motor have started to shrink as scrappage schemes in various European markets are set to lapse by the year-end. Germany, the biggest market in Europe, and Austria have already said that their scrappage programmes and other countries are all set to wrap up their schemes by December. Maruti had exported over 58,500 units till September 30,2009 with Maruti A-Star accounting for 33,500 units, Nissan Pixo at over 25,000 units and other models contributing about 7,900 units.

The model will be powered by 1.6L petrol engine with better pick up. According to figures from ARAI, the automatic variant will be fuel efficient that is of 12.5kmpl while manual transmission variants delivers mileage of 15.5kmpl. Power and torque ratings of new Maruti SX4 have been improved too and thus it has moved upwards by 2bhp and 2Nm respectively. Maruti had stopped producing Maruti SX4 seemingly confirming the widely held belief that the small car auto giant cannot handle sedan segment.
In order to grab the most of the car market and woo the customers, India's leading car maker, Maruti, is reported to launch new avatar of Maruti Omni christened as Eko. The new Maruti Omni is likely to be introduced before the biggest Indian festival-Diwali. Maruti Versa platform has been used for the new car. The code name is O2 for the new product. The Maruti Omni was developed on Maruti 800, the flagship model of the company in India, but this time it will be a premium product which is expected to be priced below Rs 5 lakh.
View Full Detail »Maruti Suzuki India today reported 17.3% jump in sales for September at 83,306 units already sold. In the domestic market, Maruti sold 71,594 units from 64,682 units in September last year, an increase of 10.7 per cent, Maruti India (MSI) said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange. Company export figures surged by 85.4 per cent to 11,712 units from 6,318 units in the year-ago period, it added.
Sales of the company's M800 declined by 7.5 per cent at 3,207 units compared to 3,467 units in September 2008, while A2 segment (that includes Maruti Alto, Maruti Wagon R, Maruti Zen Estilo, Maruti Swift, Maruti A-Star and Maruti Ritz) witnessed growth of 15.1 per cent at 52,508 units compared to 45,621 units in September last year, the company said.
Car makers in India couldn't wish anything like that what is happening in the car market now. The festive season, interest rates and new car launches made the customers to go for four-wheelers. As a result, many of the established car brands in India are out of stock. Thanks to the huge demand of the cars. The cars which are not available for immediate delivery are Honda City, Maruti Ritz, Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai i20 and Toyota Fortuner. The stores are empty from past ten days and the customers would have to wait for a long time as the supply is not adequate due to the low production. The reason is present demand is more than expected or many of the firms start production after the customers response.
View Full Detail »Maruti Suzuki's R&D centre in Gurgaon is about to develop one of the cheapest dual fuel engines. The engine will run on CNG as well as petrol mitigating the cost of fuel bills to one fourth. Multi Point Fuel Injection (MPFI) technology in CNG will be used for developing this dual fuel engine which will increase the efficiency of engine.
Today's CNG kits attached with petrol engines supply fuel only in one direction but this dual fuel engine based on MPFI technology offers various benefits. It is said that CNG fuelled vehicles are not suitable because they are slow and do not perform well on high speeds. But with this incarnation of dual fuel engine, these problems will be eradicated.
As the gas will be injected through multi points and the injectors will be integrated into the engine, it will lead to better utilisation of the fuel and will cut the running cost to almost one forth. It will be economical for the car drivers as it offers better pick up and low consumption of fuel.
Maruti,Passenger car leader of India has stopped manufacturing its most expensive sporty car Maruti SX4, the mid-sized sedan, reinforcing the Maruti can make and market big cars.For that Maruti will also rope in Bollywood star John Abraham as the new brand ambassador that will arrest dropping sales. Maruti will relaunch Maruti SX4 soon again with a new 1.6L engine which will have a much higher pick-up. It will be more expensive than the current top-end Zxi variant.The new Maruti SX4 will have an additional automatic variant, another first for any sedan from Maruti.
Maruti SX4 was launched in May 2007 in three manual variants to counter Honda City but could not compete with Honda’s superior technology and brand image. Maruti SX4 sales are now confined to a few hundred units per month only it was ahead of the Honda City in the first three months of its launch. Honda has sold 37,600 of the new City till August 2009 since its launch (November 2008) while Maruti has sold only 9,763 SX4s in the same period. Despite being cheaper than the Honda City by over a lakh, Maruti SX4 trailed by a huge margin last fiscal too, selling only 13,976 cars against City’s 38,200 cars. Analyst tracking the sector said that by fully loading the new car, Maruti is making another attempt to prove that it can make all kinds of cars. “Maruti Suzuki is a good brand but its Japanese peers Honda and Toyota appeal more to customers when it comes to buying big cars. Maruti SX4 performed better than Maruti’s other big car Baleno and initially even overtook City in sales.
Maruti Suzuki will use Manesar facility for automobile assembly while Gurgaon plant will be a base for engine assembly and machining. Both the changes will be made in a phased manner, according to company’s statement. Nevertheless, it did not disclose the name of the car models. It may be noted that Gurgaon facility manufactures mainly Maruti 800, Maruti Omni, Maruti Versa and Maruti Gypsy. On the other hand, Maruti A-Star, Maruti SX4, Maruti Swift and Maruti Swift DZiRE are produced at Manser plant. Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has launched the new version of Maruti Zen Estilo in India on Tuesday. The much-awaited small car, Maruti Estilo, is priced between Rs 3.12 lakh and Rs 3.96 lakh. In a move that will see going off the road of the Maruti Zen, the country's best-loved small car, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) has decided to stop selling cars under the Zen brand next week, when it launches a refurbished 'Maruti Zen Estilo'.
Zen, which was launched way back in 1993, is one of the oldest models on the road today, along with the Ambassador and Maruti 800. The car gained popularity in the ’90s with its class-leading looks, peppy drive and jellybean shape.
“Every car has its own utility and its own branding. Our thrust with the new Estilo is on style, and not calling it a Zen is incidental,” said Mayank Pareek, executive officer, marketing and sales, MSIL. “This is nothing to be emotional about as the Maruti Zen Estilo still has all the characteristics of the Zen. One should not expect the same level of performance or sales from every product as every car is unique on its own,” he added.
Small car marque Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) will give big car makers, such as Honda and Toyota, a tough time when it launches the sports luxury car Maruti Kizashi in India in 2010.
As per an auto industry executive,Maruti Kizashi, Suzuki’s first big car developed in-house will be displayed first time ever in India in the 2010 Auto Expo. The car will be powered by a 2.4-litre Euro IV engine, a six-speed manual transmission will be standard in the car, while the automatic one-based on continuously variable transmission (CVT) technology will be optional and will have paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel closely similar to those in Honda City and Toyota Corolla Altis. MSI’s parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, has already launched this mid-sized sedan in the US.
Maruti experience in the premium-to-luxury cars section in India has been sour as its Baleno sedan model could not excite the market while the flagship sedan Maruti SX4 launched in 2007 lost momentum after the initial pick up. View Full Detail »Finding encouragment in the statistics revealing the healthy demand for small cars in Europe, Nissan Motors has decided to nearly double the number of cars that it buys from Maruti Suzuki as part of a contract manufacturing tie-up between the two companies.
Maruti chairman R.C. Bhargava told TOI that against the earlier placed order of 30,000 units for this fiscal, Nissan has now ensured us to buy some 54,000 units. As part of the contract manufacturing arrangement, Nissan buys the Maruti A-Star compact from Maruti and sells it under the Pixo badge overseas.
Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has achieved another milestone by installing over one lakh of its KB-series engines since October last year. The KB-series engine is Bharat Stage-IV emission norms compliant and the company start using it in Maruti Ritz and Maruti A-Star. Since then it has been fitted in over one lakh cars within 10 months. The small car's petrol version has been priced at between Rs 390,000 and Rs 480,000. Whereas the diesel variant will cost between Rs 456,000 and Rs 499,000 in the national capital. Commenting on the news Shinzo Nakanishi, managing director of Maruti Suzuki said that before launching the car, the company has to study its feasibility with the K-series engine. On the other hand, for this purpose the company has to increase the capacity of Manesar and Gurgaon assembly lines and at present it is not possible due to the waiting period for models like the Swift and Swift Dzire.

The company claimed in a statement that Ritz would be the country's first Bharat Stage IV emission norms compliant car in both petrol and diesel variants. Likewise, the car will be available with two different engine options- K-series 1.2 litre petrol and 1.3 litre diesel engine. The car will be positioned in the premium A2 segment.
View Full Detail »Maruit Suzuki India (MSI), the largest car manufacturer and Second largest car exporter of the country, will set up its first stockyard in south India by the middle of this year. This is in line with
strengthening its distribution network to set up stockyards in different parts of the country to reduce delivery time to customers, while it looks to boost its sales force. However, Maruit Suzuki India Managing Director Shinzo Nakanishi declined to provide details such as time-frame, investments, location and size of the stockyard. Nakanishi said setting up stockyards for both finished products and spare parts at regional level is the priority to reduce the transportation time, cost and mainly delivery time to customers.

It posted a dip in its net profit by 18.31 per cent at 243.1 crore. The net profit was 297.6 crore in the same period last year. Maruti Suzuki CFO, Ajay Seth said that they had incurred a loss of Rs 121 crore in fourth quarter due to forex losses on the dollar-rupee contracts. sharp fall in net profit for the March quarter is perhaps the first seen in the last seven years. From April 2008 to March 2009, the company sold 722,144 units of cars in the domestic market. This is only 1.45 per cent growth in numbers against the units sold last year. Maruti exported a record 70,000 cars, a jump of 32 per cent from last year.
View Full Detail »Maruti Suzuki will replace old engines in its popular models Alto, WagonR, Zen Estilo, Versa and Swift by April 2010 when new Bharat Stage IV (BS IV) emissions comes into place. These five cars account for a bulk of Maruti’s 7.22 lakh cars sold in India. For this purpose the company will invest 1,200 crore. “While all our new launches will be on the new engines, in the long term we plan to gradually replace our existing series of engines with the fuel efficient KB series engines,” said Maruti Suzuki India MD & CEO Shinzo Nakanishi. The ICAT had cleared Ritz in a whole vehicle test approval ceremony, held recently at the test center’s premises in Manesar, thereby clearing ground for rolling out the car in the Indian market. In the financial year ended March 31, Maruti's sales increased 3.6 per cent to 7,92,167 from 7,64,842 a year earlier. MSI's total passenger-car sales moved northward by 13.58 per cent to 72,461 units against 63,799 units last year.
