German premium car manufacturer, Audi, have teased its well-known cracker, R8. Though, it is only its laser headlight that have been revealed, the new R8 promises to bring in more cutting edge technologies that will set new benchmark in the supercar fraternity. The next generation car will be featuring LED lighting system as standard across lineup. Moreover, it can be equipped with optional laser-spot high-intensity beam headlight, capable of attaining nearly twice the illumination of LED fitment.

The picture reveals aggressive L-shaped DRL marked over the crystal-like laser projector. Also, there is a good bit of front bumper sneaking out, featuring a newly designed scoop with three wings, nearly vertical to the headlamps. On the other hand, the current R8 boasts horizontal slats. Then there is a fair bit of diamond cut alloys visible in the image, looking pretty sleek on that large-grained metallic blue paint job. We also expect it to feature the single frame grill as on Q3, displayed a couple of months back.

What is the concept behind Audi’s Laser Headlights?

There is one laser module in each headlamp, operating on four high-intensity laser diodes. These four intense blue-light laser beams are bind together in the same module. Now, since the emission is blue in color the system incorporates a phosphor converter that modifies blue light into pure white light. This also enables one to distinguish between laser headlights and others, by their blue light signature.
