The Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, when launched in 2008, brought great laurels for Maruti in the sedan segment. It gave new direction to hatchback-derived sedans and has been ruling the compact sedan segment for almost 8 years now. In May ’15 Maruti sold 19663 units of the Dzire. All thanks to our ‘size for price’ mindset and to that fiat sourced 1.3 litre DDis diesel engine for our kmpl obsessed market.

The sales figures of March, April and May also put light on the same fact. Dzire’s main rivals in the compact sedan segment are beaten all ends up.

So lets take a look in to the history of Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.

Generation 1 (2008-2012)

Dzire’s first generation was launched on 26 March 2008. The car was created to replace the Esteem entry level sedan from Maruti Suzuki. The Swift Dzire has undergone the same upgrades as the Swift and it also comes with the same trim levels and engine variants i.e. a 1.2 litre K series petrol engine and a much famed 1.3 litre DDis diesel engine. A few modifications have been made to the car to account for the addition of the boot and to make the rear cabin space more comfortable. In 2010, the Dzire got the new 1200 cc K series engine for the petrol unit which was smaller in terms of cubic capacity by 100cc but produced better performance as compared to the earlier 1300 cc motor.

Generation 2 (2012)

The second-generation Swift Dzire compact sedan was launched in February 2012. The car was shortened to less than 4 meters so this was nothing but the excise duty benefit (10 percent now as compared to 22 percent earlier) that is being passed on to the customers. The feature rich Dzire is actually cheaper than the old 4.1 meter Dzire by about 30 thousand. Maruti Swift Dzire has been the leader in its segment post this update.

Generation 2 Facelift (2015)

This Facelift make the already prodigious Dzire even more appealing. The major changes were seen on the outside, the cosmetic changes included a new bumper, restyled headlamps with smoked innards, chrome grille, chrome lined fog lamp housing, and new design alloy wheels, and power folding ORVMs with turn indicators.

On the interiors front- new upholstery, presence of accessory socket at both front and rear, multifunction steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth controls on it.

Top end variant also gets a push button start, reverse parking sensors, and remote bootlid opener making it feature rich!
