Figo 2010-2012 Diesel EXI Option Review
Ford Figo works as the flagship hatchback of the Ford Motors especially on the Indian shores. The Ford Figo diesel as expected due to the latest trend in the country has been garnering a lot of attention and demand. One of the diesel variants of the car is the Ford Figo EXI Option which sits above the EXI variant. The company has gratified the car with seven different appealing body colors to choose from, namely, Colorado Red, Moon Dust Silver, Diamond White, Panther Black, Sea Grey, Squeeze and Chill. The Ford Figo Diesel EXI Option like other variants swanks a length of 3795mm which is relative to the Ford Fiesta sedan and is undoubtedly more than any other hatchback in the B-segment. The other dimensions of the car stand as 1680 mm for the width and 1427 mm for the height which makes it the smallest of cars like Hyundia i10, Maruti Swift and Ritz and Chevrolet Beat. The ground clearance of the car however is 2489 mm which is the highest of all the aforementioned cars. The boot space of the car is pretty fair too which stands at a figure of 284 liters.
The car flaunts well proportioned and elegant exteriors which are made more beatific with the smoked effect of the angular headlights, fog lights with trapezoidal enclosures flanking the black air duct that bears the number plate and a sleek chrome grille that sports the Ford logo in the centre. The side profile of the car steals the show with the roof that tapers toward the rear end and the front window that is rendered a low setting. At the rear end the car bears sharp lines and rectangular taillights that are placed vertically.
The Ford Figo Diesel EXI Option interiors flaunt a unique red and black theme that comes as an option alongside the whole black theme. The dashboard sits in chic red color with a silver centre console and embedded black controls. The features finding way in the car are pretty much on the same lines as that of the other cars in the B-segment. The interiors of the car are also graced with extra comfy seats well suited for long distance travel and extra space in the front that undoubtedly makes the car more comfortable than others like Hyundai i10 and Maruti Ritz.
Engine & Performance
The Ford Figo Diesel EXI Option is housed with the much lauded 1.4L Duratorq diesel engine which is also doing duty in the diesel variants of the Ford Ikon and Ford Fiesta sedans. The engine runs on the SOHC mechanism and uses 8 valves . The fuel system used is common rail and each cylinder uses 2 valves.
Power
The 1.4 L diesel engine is known for the frugality and high performance it exhibits. The engine is perfectly capable of generating a peak power of 69bhp at 4000 RPM and a peak torque of 160Nm at 2000 RPM . The overall driving experience is greatly enhanced with the mating of the engine and the 5 speed manual transmission system.
Mileage
The car flaunts a city mileage of 1.3.8 kmpl and a highway mileage of 18.5 kmpl which ultimately makes the overall mileage around 14.7 kmpl, thanks to the high performance engine. The tank capacity of the car for the fuel is 45 liters which aids in ensuring a break free drive to distant places.
Acceleration & Pick-up
The engine affixed in the Figo Diesel EXI Option has a displacement of 1399cc and enables the car to attain a maximum speed of 175 kmph. The 0-100 kmph acceleration time has been measured to be less than 16 seconds.
Braking & Handling
The ventilated disc brakes affixed in the front and drum brakes affixed in the rear end of the car ensures decent braking and the 175/65 R14 Radial/Tubeless tyres ensure fairly well handling . The steering wheel is Hydraulic power assisted and the car has the minimum turning radius of around 4.9 m. The independent McPherson strut with dual path mounts work as the front suspension whereas the semi-independent twist beam with coil springs work as the rear suspension.
Safety Features
The 3 point seatbelts for front & rear seats, lap strap for rear centre passenger, laminated glazed windscreen and dual tone horn form the basic safety features of the car. Advanced safety features include the intelligent central locking , child safety locks, smart programmable keyless entry and an Engine Immobilizer (PATS). The basic function of the engine immobilizer is to restrict the engine from starting through illegal attempts like a duplicate key. The car however, still misses on the anti-lock braking system.
Stereo and Accessories
The EXI Option variant boasts pretty much the same features as that of the EXI variant such as a power steering, remote fuel filling opening, air conditioning system with heater, and electrically operated boot opener. The interiors sport fabric inserts on the door trims, a 12V front power point, foldable grab handles with coat hooks in the rear part, day/night inside rear view mirror, cupholder in front central console, front power windows, a removable parcel tray and a vanity mirror on the sun visor of the passenger seat. The car is enriched with instrumentation like the digital odometer and tripmeter, low fuel warning as well as the door ajar warning, chime reminder for the turned on headlamp, water in the fuel indicator and an indicator that displays the distance that can be traveled with the amount of fuel remaining in the tank. The features of utmost significance that has paved its way in the Option variant is the CD player which was absent in the normal EXI diesel variant of the Ford Figo hatchback. However, AM/FM radio is still absent from the feature list and so are the leather seats.
